How does the confidential reporting scheme work

Reports sent to the PO Box are opened only by the Manager - Ethics and Discipline. The description within the report is re-typed without the reporter's name. The director may telephone the reporter (at a number provided by the reporter which may be a home number) to ask for more data on technical aspects. Information that might be used to identify the name of an employer, the location of a project, or the names of any individuals or products mentioned by the reporter is removed to create the de-identified report. Only de-identified reports are issued to IPENZ and original reports are returned to the reporters.

Analysis

De-identified reports are categorised and kept on a database for review by a panel of experts to detect trends, and to provide commentary. The reports will also be used for related research.

Newsletters

The information gathered will be published in engineering dimension. The information can be used by individuals, firms and organisations to avoid similar problems in the future and improve the quality of their engineering.
