Fulton-Downer Gold Medal - President's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Demonstrating Engineering in its Role of Public ServiceThe Fulton-Downer Gold Medal - President's Award is made in recognition of outstanding achievement within the profession by an IPENZ Member or group of Members. Recipients demonstrate the strengths of the engineering profession in its role of public service. It is one of the highest accolades the Institution can bestow. How the award is presented The Fulton-Downer Gold Medal is conferred directly by the IPENZ President. The award cannot be applied for and no nominations are sought. Generally one award is presented annually in March, at the IPENZ Fellows' and Achievers' Dinner. Award history and past recipients The concept was developed during 1989 and announced as the President's Award in 1990 at the IPENZ Annual Conference. In 2005 it was renamed the Fulton-Downer Gold Medal to honour the Institution's historic past and the people who have had a large part to play in IPENZ. The Fulton-Downer Gold Medal was established in 1929 by a bequest from JE Fulton, with additional donations by AF Downer. It was originally awarded for best technical engineering paper at the IPENZ Annual Conference.
